Step by step
Get the paperwork together
Registration, service records, any inspection reports, and confirmation of whether finance is owing. Knowing the answer before a buyer asks builds trust.
Be honest about condition
Note wear, damage, repairs and known issues. Buyers of heavy vehicles often inspect closely, so surprises tend to cost you the sale.
Photograph it well
Good light, a clean truck and a full set of angles. See the truck ad tips.
Set a sensible price
Look at comparable listings for trucks of similar type, age, hours or kilometres and condition. We do not publish prices as market fact because they move.
List it free
Create your listing on the marketplace in a few minutes.
Handle enquiries safely
Meet at a safe location, keep records of conversations, and be wary of overpayment offers or pressure to move off the platform.
Before the buyer arrives
- Have the compliance plate, VIN and registration details ready to view.
- Check for finance owing. A PPSR search shows registered interests on a vehicle.
- Wash the truck, empty the cab and fix small things that make it look neglected.
- Let buyers arrange their own mechanical inspection if they wish.
Staying safe from scams
Be cautious of buyers who offer more than the asking price, ask you to send money for freight or an agent, or push for payment to be handled outside normal channels. The government's Scamwatch site explains common scams and how to report them.
Selling a truck with finance owing
If there is finance on the truck, the lender usually has an interest in it until the debt is paid out. Speak with your lender about the payout process before agreeing a sale. This is general information, not advice for your situation.
